You've decided to start your own membership site knowing that it could mean a monthly income for you. One of the first questions that may come to mind is what sort of membership site to start. Basically, membership sites come in seven different genres. By examining these basic seven, perhaps you can see more clearly what direction you would like to move toward with your membership site.
These are the seven basic varieties of membership sites:
1. Coaching/ Mentoring Sites. These sites typically offer enrollees the benefit of expert advice exclusively available online covering just about any topic you can conceive. Subsequently, these articles can be modified and placed on the members own website, blog, forum, etcetera.
3. Social Site. This type of site has seen incredible growth recently along with match making sites. Social sites create a means for enthusiasts to meet and interact. Typically, they are topic specific to personalities, interests, or lifestyles. An example of a popular social site is myspace, of course.
4. Content Sites. A very desireable site to have when providing pertinent information to a very specific interest. Members pay a monthly fee to get this information in a signle resource as it is not available without extensive research.
5. Paid Newsletter. This is also a type of paid monthly membership service that has probably been around the longest. A writer or website owner would bring together specific content that is related to a particular theme. The membership benefits by having all the up to date information readily accessible to them without having to sort through various media outlets to find the same information.
6. Message Boards or Forums. Perhaps the oldest type of membership site, the forum or message board is typically free of charge. They are usually used as a sort of community center on a website. This allows enthusiasts of that particular websites topic to post relevant messages to other enthusiasts. While you might be able to charge a very low membership fee to access a forum containing rare information, it is not likely.
7. Content Delivered by Video or Audio. These types of membership sites offer audio or video files to its membership usually on a monthly basis so they can be published on the members site.
As you can see, there are several types of membership sites that you can start. Use your imagination as the aforementioned are just the basic types. You can always create your own hybrid style membership site.
