Six Ways To Save Money At Your Next Halloween Party

Halloween parties are a blast. But they can cost a fortune. Invite lots of people and you need lots of food. And for a great atmosphere you need decorations, entertainment, and costumes. But relax. You can have a great party without breaking the bank. Read on for six hints to save money this Halloween.

1. Have a potluck meal. Instead of planning several snacks yourself, ask everyone to bring something. Make sure to be very specific as to what not to bring. For example, maybe you'll make the main dish yourself or the desserts yourself. You don't have to have a meal. You can also ask everyone to simply bring finger foods if your party will be later in the evening. If you are choosing to have a meal, plan something relatively easy and inexpensive to make, like Bar-B-Q sandwiches or cold cuts.

2. Don't spend a fortune on a costume. You'll have lots of other expenses. Rather than buying a costly costume, make your own home-made version. A pair of overalls and a shirt can become a farmer's costume or a bed sheet can be a great start as a toga or a ghost. Rake through your closet and become inspired.

3. Get ready early. Buy party supplied in November when they're on sale, if you hold a party every year. Obviously, you'll need to buy candy and other food fresh, but costumes and decorations can be boughtly cheaply after October 31. Visit party stores but remember to for great bargains and discount and department stores too.

4. Get twice the value of your dollar. Find stuff that can be used in different ways. Children can paint pumpkins at the party for decorations, and you can use the insides to make pies and baked goods. Save decorations and use those lights, fake webs, and garlands year after year.

5. Keep the party small. I know it's tempting to invite the whole neighborhood, but you probably don't have the space or the money to do that! Make your list and then cut back. A good way to do this is to keep it adults-only, or you can just invite your closest friends. Don't feel bad about keeping people off of the list. Everyone understands that planning a party is hard and if it's too large it will be too expensive.

6. Go large. Buy in bulk - items like candy. They're some great deals if you buy the larger size bags. If you don't use it all freeze what's left and use it during the year.

Remember, your party should be fun, not stressful. If money stresses you out, consider scaling back on your party or enjoy the holiday by going out to others' parties. At the very least, use the tips above to save money on your party.
