Easy Goal Setting - Goal Setting Part 1
Kerry Beck
On to a new year, a lot of people with find time to set goals for 2007. Its a good thing to do at every start of the year. Setting goals is a well known method of success by people who excel like athletes, businessmen and other achievers in their own field of expertise. Moms at home are also included! You have the best job of them all and that is raising future leaders, so be ready for it by setting and seeing these goals into frution - for your children and you.
There are easy managable ways for moms to achieve these goals. Goals can be of short-term or long-term ones as you work on your day and then weeks and then finally to months and years. With these goals, I can get organized and be able to maximize my time and resources to the fullest. This also enlightens me and empowers me with new knowledge that I can share with my children.
WHY DO WE SET GOALS?
You may be saying to yourself, why do I need to set any goals? God will show me what to do each day and I rest in Him. You have discovered a great truth as you rest in your faith and this is necessary as you follow God's direction. BUT, setting clearly defined short-term and long-term goals will enable you to measure your progress as you raise your children and grow in Christ. As you achieve your goals, you will be motivated to follow God.
Do you feel good when you crossed items off your list? I really do! Goals are also the same. As these short term goals are met, you'll find out that you've accomplished something and it feels very good.
Do you ever go through the day, feeling like you're not sure what else needs to be done or feeling like you wasted your day away?
Goals eliminate that feeling of a long and pointless grind. I'm sure you know what I mean by pointless grind throughout your day & week.
GOAL SETTING BASICS - WHERE SHALL I START SETTING MY GOALS?
1. Think deeply on what you really want to do as you bring up your kids to be leaders in God's image. These will be your lifetime goals for all of you.
2. Make a list of the short and long term goals needed for you to attain your lifetime goals. Make a chart with each family member at the top of your chart.
3. Turn those goals into manegeable chunks that are easy to complete. These sub-goals will be under the first goal at that particular week only.
4.Write the activities you've done, everyday, so that you can meet your goals. You can begin on the first month, again, breaking it to manageable chunks of weekly activities. On a Sunday or a Monday, write down your everyday activities for the particular week only.
5. With your list created, don't waste time in working to achieve your goals.
In part 2, I will discuss putting your goals into action.
