From Analog Television To HDTV Television
What is HDTV Television?
HDTV stands for high definition television. HDTV is a digital television broadcasting system with greater resolution than traditional television systems.
High definition usually refers to 720 vertical lines of resolution or more. Because the signal is a digital signal, it produces a signal that is neither hazy nor snowy.
HDTV is digitally broadcast because digital television requires less bandwidth if sufficient video compression is used. HDTV technology was first introduced in the United States in the early 1900s by a small group of television companies .
How To Acquire The HDTV Signal
To display a superior picture, HDTVs require a high definition signal. Typical sources of HD signals are as follows:
Over the air with the antenna. Most cities in the U.S. with major network affiliates broadcast over the air in HD. To receive this signal, an HD tuner is required. Most new HD televisions have an HD tuner built in. For HDTV televisions without a built-in HD tuner, a separate set top HD tuner box can be rented from a cable or satellite company or purchased by the HD television owner.
Cable television companies often offer HDTV broadcasts as part of their digital broadcast service. In addition, many cable companies offer on-demand movies and shows.
Satellite-based TV companies offer HDTV as an upgrade. When this happens, new satellite receiver boxes and satellite dishes may be required.
Definition OF HDTV Broadcast Systems
HDTV broadcast systems are defined in three different ways: one, the number of lines in a vertical display resolution; two, the scanning system, whether it is progressive scanning or interlaced scanning; and three, the number of frames per second or fields per second.
How Big Of A Screen?
If money is not a big concern, then this is going to boil down to, will you mount it on the wall, or leave it on the floor, and how far away from you will it be when you are watching it?
Today many people like to mount HDTV televisions on the wall because the footprint is greatly reduced compared with an entertainment centers.
Will I Notice A Difference?
Almost everyone notices the picture quality difference between their old analog TV and the new HDTV television. Most people feel they are present at the event watching in person. The actors and actresses have certainly noticed that the pimples and wrinkles that didn’t show on analog TV are clearly visible on HDTV television.
