Where To Go When You Have A Conflict With Your Insurance
John Paige
Are you in a situation where you are having problems with your flood insurance company? Life does not always run smoothly, and so much as it can happen with things like work and errands, so too can conflicts arise when dealing with your insurance company.
First of all, you must remember that insurance companies do not work or stand alone. They belong to a group of or an organization and when you have complaints, they will settle with you based on the organization laws and regulations.
This means that when you have a complaint against your insurance provider or when things did not work out to your satisfaction, you can not just march in their office and demand satisfaction or punch the ear of the sales agent you dealt with when you bought your policy. Your complaints will not be ignored but certain steps will have to be followed before your complaint will reach an appropriate department.
Because your insurance provider is part of a larger organization, there will always be an or other appropriate person who can and will address your complaint. Keep in mind that the company hs a reputation to protect and must therefore do things in a very rigid and systematic order. Many people entrust their money and property to these companies, and they must always remain credible to their clients.
When you plan to buy the services of a flood insurance company make sure that company is a part of one or more insurance organizations. If they are not a member of other insurance organizations then it should raise a lot of questions in you. These trade organizations control and formulate the rules for their member units.
In the UK, it is easy to check if your insurance company is a member of one of the two main organizations. These organizations are the Insurance Brokers Registration Council (IRBC) and the Association of British Insurers (ABI). By knowing which organization your provider belongs to, you can easily find out what steps to take next with your complaint.
The providers who are part of any of the two organizations will be following the rules of this organization. This gives you an added advantage in the sense that your complaints will be sorted out by very senior professionals who are quite experienced in this field.
There is also one more new organization called as General Insurance Standards Council or GISC. They are also catching up on the insurance industry regulations slowly. Your complaints if any should go to your respective insurance provider in writing. If you are not still satisfied with their action, you can inquire about the complaint procedure and go by it. Most of your complaints belong to the ombudsman scheme or an arbitration scheme.
If your complaint goes to the ombudsman method your insurance company should accept the given decision and if it goes to the arbitration scheme, both you and your provider should be ready to accept the decision given by the arbitrator. If you are ready to pay high court fees and patience for lengthy procedure, you can file a court petition, this is if you are not satisfied with any of the decisions.
