Identity Theft-6 Tips To Help Avoid Being An Id Theft Victim
Coach Steve
Everyone is at risk of becoming an identity theft victim. However, there are easy things you can do to reduce your exposure. Here are 6 tips that may help.
1) Look at your driving report:
Insurance companies go over your driving record from time to time, and so should you. You want to make sure that your record doesn't have any dings that you don't know about. If there are some dings on your report that your not famaliar with, it could mean that someone is using your drivers license information. This is a sign that your identity has been compromised.
2) When you get a new computer, delete Or remove all your personal information from your old computer.
3) Keep The Information On Your Checks To The Minimum Required:
Use your initials instead of your full name. Your social security number is not required to be on your checks, DO NOT USE IT. Your checks are viewed by many people, so again, limit the information you have printed on them.
4) Protect Your Mailbox:
Get a new mailbox that features a lock and key. There's lots of personal information in your mailbox that identity thieves love to target.
5) Watch What You Put In Your Trash Can Or Bin.
Tear up or use scissors with anything that contains private information before discarding into your trash. Identity thieves will look for information in your trash. Even junk mail is a source of information for them, so use caution here.
6) Invest In an Identity Theft Protection Program:
There are Identity Theft Protection Plans that are a great buy, and a must if you really want to be protected. Plan costs usually range in the $9.95-$12.95 area. Prepaid Legal Offers Identity Theft Shield, offers a credit monitoring service along with restoring your identity (included in program). Lifelock offers a credit monitoring program.
Put into place the ideas you've just read about.
