Your Universe In Pictures: Creating Your Own Personal Genie
Kenrick Cleveland
We've all had the experience of wanting something that has eluded us. Maybe it's wealth, possessions, maybe it's a relationship, maybe it's optimum health or other physical attributes which for some reason or another we have not been able to conjure up.
When my wife and I were looking for a new home, we created what I call a 'vision board'. We got specific about exactly what we wanted--over 4,000 square feet, near the water and the mountains, in the Pacific Northwest, and my wife added, just as a lark, something she had wanted since she was a child--a gazebo. A vision board requires some poster board, a glue stick, magazines, photos, crayons, whatever you want, really, and we collaged our dream home, mapped it out including the water, mountains and gazebo.
So what happened? Well, six months later our realtor brought us to this dream house, down to the gazebo, and we bought it.
I know, I know. . . it sounds nuts. I can even almost hear the collective negativity of the possibility that we could manifest our dream home with art supplies. My intention is not to change you from a cynic into a believer. . . I am only interested in passing on what has worked for me and what has worked for my students. You can take it or leave it. I hope you will at least suspend the cynicism for a moment and give this a try.
For those of you on board, no doubt you're asking, 'How does this work?'
In an earlier post I spoke of befriending our other-than-conscious gentle giants-the great unconscious. And if you haven't read that article, please do so because there is some powerful information on how we can ask for help when we need it and get it.
This is key: what we think about and look at and concentrate on is what we attract to us. In contacting our gentle giant, we are asking for what we want in life.
Keep this very important distinction in mind: we are not asking for what we do not want, we are asking for what we do want. It's a very important detail. If you're saying, 'I don't want any more debt', you are bringing yourself more debt. If you are saying, 'I don't want another bad relationship', you are asking for more of the same.
Concentrating on what we want in this tactile way and giving it energy and setting our intention for it positively will speed up the process of having exactly what we want.
When you have finished your vision board, put it somewhere where you will look at it for at least ten minutes a day. Maybe have it on the wall in your bedroom next to your bed. It will be the first thing you see when you wake up in the morning.
A creative thing one of my students did was scan his vision board and turn it into wallpaper on his computer. He's also made a website with the image so he can access the image anywhere, any time.
If you have scanned it, it can also be shrunken down to the size of a 3 x 5 photograph and printed out for you to have a handy travel sized copy.
