Echinacea is a native plant with beautiful purple flowers found in North America. For hundreds of years it has been used as an alternative medicine. The North American plain Indians were very familiar with the healing properties of Echinacea. It is of the same family as Ragweed and is also known as the purple cone flower.

The roots of Echinacea contain healing properties and have anti-biotic, anti-viral and immunity enhancing effects. Echinacea boosts the immune system and stimulates phagocytosis that is most often used to fight cold and flu. If you feel that you are going to get a cold, start taking Echinacea at once. This may prevent you from getting the cold or if you do get a cold it would not be so severe.

Echinacea is proven to be of benefits for other health problems. It is effective against illnesses and inflammation caused by infectious bacteria and viruses. Some of these complaints are arthritis, measles, smallpox and mumps. Echinacea helps to heal wounds and can also give relief to pains or swellings. When used as a mouthwash it gives relief to painful gums and teeth.

Echinacea is sold in health food stores, chemists and supermarkets. You can choose from tablets, capsules, tincture, tea bags or tea leaves. Do not take Echinacea if you have a reaction to Ragweed. By drinking some Echinacea tea daily you are able to get rid of fungus that causes athletes foot from your body.

To gain relief for gastro-intestinal complaints try sipping Echinacea tea. It is a great booster for the immune system and helps to fight infections and viruses. You can stay healthy with the help of Echinacea tea. For a more effective prevention against infectious and inflammatory diseases use Echinacea together with licorice.

Today Echinacea remains as one of the most popular herbs in the Western world which includes Europe, Australia and US. It is a widely used herbal treatment for colds and flu. However, its true potentials in the fight against other infections and viruses have yet to be fully studied and understood.
