Potty training a puppy is best done right after it eats. By taking your puppy outdoors or to the area that you have set up for it, it'll create a regular routine to follow. You should also take your puppy to this area first thing in the morning and before you go to sleep to help establish this routine.
In order to potty train a puppy, you should reward it with good praise and possibly a treat after it has successfully accomplished the task in the correct area. In doing so, the puppy understands that this was a good thing to do and it pleases you so it will want to keep doing it.
Dry dog food is recommended for feeding your puppy. When you go to feed it, make sure you do so at the same time. This way it will go potty at the same time each day and night. If you're not on a set schedule, there's no way your puppy is going to develop a routine. This is very important when you're potty training a puppy.
Young pups need a lot of water but with water comes the need to go potty. So make sure you constantly fill its water container but be sure to remove it about 2 hours before you go to bed. This way it won't want or need to go potty in the middle of the night.
