How To Choose Baby Nursery Furniture

By: Jordan Thompson

Choosing Baby Nursery Furniture Wisely

Decorating your nursery is an exciting and fun thing to do but it can also be incredibly expensive. The problem is that we are bombarded with ideas of what we should be having in our nurseries rather than what is important and necessary.

It is reassuring to know that a beautiful nursery can still be had with a reasonable budget. All you need to do is be a little careful on what you decide to buy and be smart with what you have. You’ll find that you don’t have to buy extravagant baby nursery furniture to make your nursery look nice.

What Furniture to Buy

The most obvious piece of baby nursery furniture that you will need is a crib. Concentrate on this first and don’t skimp on it as your baby will be sleeping in this crib for hours for two or three years. Antique stores and flea markets sometimes have vintage cribs that look great and are cheaper than modern cribs on the market.

Avoid buying such cribs as they are not compliant with modern safety standards. You might be exposing your baby to unnecessary harm just to save a few bucks. It is therefore much better to buy something modern and new. There are quite a few baby nursery furniture stores that offer vintage looking cribs while still complying with modern safety standards.

Some parents may choose to buy a bassinet or cradle as part of your baby nursery furniture as this is highly portable. However bassinets and cradles are only for the first three to four months of a baby’s life. After that, the bassinet or cradle is not strong enough to support a baby’s weight. In this respect it may be an unnecessary expense. If you really must have one borrow one from a friend whose baby has outgrown it already.

Another important aspect of baby nursery furniture is furniture for you the parent. You will spend hours in the nursery and there should be some comfortable chairs for you to sit in when feeding baby or simply soothing baby at night. A rocking chair is a great idea as the rocking motion soothes babies and helps to put a baby to sleep faster. You can easily use furniture from the rest of the house for this purpose or repaint and decorate second hand furniture to match the nursery.

Avoid themes as a child can quickly outgrow them. Instead find soothing colors that can last a few years, don’t paint the nursery pink or blue. There are other colors that suit both sexes, such as butter yellow, pale greens and sky blues. It is easy to incorporate color with curtains, carpeting and a few pieces of colorful baby nursery furniture.
