Matt A. Thomas
Background checks are used more and more frequently these days. In the past, it was easy to apply for work because we were such a trusting culture. This is not true any more. Much more comprehensive background checks are performed to error on the safe side. Read on to see what's discovered during an extensive background check.
To help you determine who the players are in this article, the person who is receiving the comprehensive background check is known as the "subject" while "checker" will be the name used for the person that's performing the background check.
An extensive background check lets the checker find out the following information about someone.
Identity: Identity verification is very important now, especially for people applying for jobs. What is an extensive background check for a person's identity? Verifying a person's identity can involve a variety of information.
When performing research on a persons identity, many facts about the subject come to light. By gaining access to their social security number, you now have their date of birth, when and where their social security number was issued, and even the addresses to previous places they've lived! The background check will also show you any aliases they've used, their marriage records and death records, details about their driver's license as well as who they've shared a residence with - even if it's just a friend!
Finances: Financial information is also important on background checks. This tells creditors whether the person is financially responsible and might alert a potential employer to financial "flakiness" which might be a result of poor employment history. What is an extensive background check into a person's financial information?
The details that show up can include property records, vehicles that are registered to them, and details about their credit history - including any court records regarding bankruptcy and judgments against them.
Financial information almost always contains a credit history check. A credit history check will tell the checker what the subject's financial history is for the last seven years. This includes all bills, all credit lines, and all loans taken out by the subject and how well they have paid on their debt. Sometimes you can even find out how many employers a person has had by checking into their credit history.
Professional History: A comprehensive background check will show the checker a chronology of the professional aspects of the subjects background. From this information, the checker may find certain affiliations or accomplishments that help determine whether or not to hire them.
A subjects professional background may show you things that are very important when looking to hire them. Are they affiliated with other corporations? Do they have other business partnerships that weren't disclosed? Do they have professional licenses that are important to you but that they neglected to mention? These are just some of the questions that will be answered.
Criminal History: A convicted felon will show up in a comprehensive background search. It gives you the opportunity to choose whether or not you want to hire someone with a violent past and may save you headaches in the future.
A detailed criminal history will include felonies (describing the offense and what the sentence was) and a search for sexual offenses. The information is available from the state for the previous 7 years.
A county-wide criminal history check will include any county-wide criminal records as well as the subjects driving record.
When dealing with folks you're not sure about, a detailed background check can surely help. Whether its to check out your kids teacher to make sure they aren't a sex offender, check out the caregiver for your elderly mom to make sure they don't have a past
