It's a fact that a degree from a quality higher education institution, be it online or off-line can radically increase one's earning power throughout the course of a life. The potential may be hard to believe: statistics indicate that a higher education degree can increase one's earning power by several hundred thousand dollars over the course of a lifetime. With this awareness, one can see why access to a quality online degree program can significantly alter the future.
It is clear that there is a correlation between earning power and education. Individuals who possess a high school diploma or GED can make, on average, twice as much as those who have not completed any education at the high school level. In many respects, online educational programs can be very similar to their more traditional counterparts. The degrees and curriculum that are offered online and off-line can be comparable in many ways and certainly create the same type of future earning power for the student with degree in hand.
It is quite possible for students to obtain federal financial aid at certain online colleges. Scholarships and other financial aid may also be offered for students attending online college classes.
Despite all of the powerful arguments in favor of obtaining an online education, there are some real concerns....not all online educational programs are legitimate.
Some of these online colleges provide worthless diplomas and are probably nothing more than diploma mills. There are no standards for quality educational practice and the diplomas that they issue are not recognized. Consequently, such diplomas will not open doors to future increased earning power.
"Educational programs" of this nature do a great disservice to the online communityand create undue fear for those who may be considering the option of an online degree program.
So how does one avoid such pitfalls? Very simply: by finding out if the educational institution is accredited. Colleges and universities, both online and off, are accredited when they meet certain standards of educational criteria. Such is a marker for ensuring the provision of quality degrees.
In the real world, there are traditional colleges and universities that do not possess accreditation; just so in the online world, one will find that there are educational programs that may or may not possess accreditation. But it is a clear fact: the mark of a quality educational program, online or off, is determined by standards of accreditation
Clearly, online degree programs are viable alternatives for people seeking the advantages of higher education. Quality online degree programs are accredited like their off-line counterparts and the education from an online program can be obtained at a fraction of the cost of a traditional program. Online degree programs are easily accessible, providing ready access to many with busy schedules. With all of these advantages, it is understandable why more and more people are seeking the online route to pursuing higher education.
