Striped Socks Are Not The Norm

By: Dakota Ulrich

I have always loved to express myself. There are many different kinds of suits, shirts, pants, and sweaters out there, and I Definitely take advantage of this variety. After all, as the saying goes, the clothes make the man. One thing I have always been unsatisfied with, however, is striped socks. There are a lot of options available with men’s clothing, but in most respects there isn’t that much you can do with your socks. Flowers, rainbows, and other designs are viewed as feminine, and so most men just go with playing, single color socks. To me, these are incredibly dull and boring. Without striped socks, I would Be much less able to express myself.

Striped dress socks are especially important to me. I work in a professional environment, animal required to dress formally every day. I were a conservative suit, complete with a power tie and well tailored pants. It is alright, and it looks really good on Me, but it is a little bit too dour and sedate for my taste. With my striped dress socks, I get to cut loose on at least one aspect of my clothing. It is almost like a small rebellion, a way of asserting identity in what is, by and large, a very conformist workplace.

Of course, when I am working out I always wear striped socks. When I used to play soccer, striped knee socks were one of my favorite standbys, but nowadays I spend more time in the gym, working out on the exercise machines. Even so, I can always find socks that please me. Men’s athletic socks are, overall, much flashier than dress socks. You can get them with all kinds of brightly colored stripes up and down them, facing either horizontally or vertically. They look really sharp when you are really pumping your legs, trying to get the best workout you can. When I know I look good, I work harder, and when I work harder, I stay healthier.

I’ve experimented with some other kinds of fancy socks, but striped socks are the best one so far. Usually, other patterns look kind of indistinct. They might look sharp from close-up, but from a distance it is hard to see anything that isn’t simply drawn and defined. That is why stripes are such a classic on clothes ? they are easy to see, and break up the monotony of one color.
