My parents were both organization freaks, and neither of them would ever shy away from using modern, disposable goods. On the contrary, plastic storage bins were the rule, and plastic silverware was used at least once a week. Everything was stacked in the stackable plastic bin ? dishes, clothes, toys ? the list went on and on. They realize that the clear plastic box was one of the greatest inventions of all time, and I can't help but agree with that conclusion.
Plastic boxes, you see, are cheap, uniform, durable, and light weight. There are a million different reasons why a plastic box is superior to a wooden one, and always will be. Don't get me wrong ? The wooden chest has its place. Wooden boxes are great for storing clothes in, because they give them a lovely scent. Nevertheless, for everything else, plastic bins are far superior.
The perspective that my wife holds on the plastic bin could not be more different from my own. In her view, there is nothing more ugly and sterile than a plastic bin. She loves anything that looks organic. She does not mind a little clutter either.
Don't get me wrong, she isn't a huge slob, but she isn't exactly neat. More days than not, I have to pick up after her a little bit. She wants quirky wooden shelves instead of plastic bins. She wouldn't use a plastic bin for anything if she had the choice. I don't even think she would have the plastic bin stack in the garage, containing seasonable gear that we don't need for the winter. The fact that she can even tolerate having a plastic bins around the house is a testimony to how much he loves me.
Nonetheless, I am the one who does most of the cleaning around here, so my system of organization holds. If she hates having a plastic bin stack, that is her prerogative. If she wants to start doing the cleaning, she is more than welcome to. Until she is willing to do the household chores, however, we are using my plastic storage bin system. I may be less artistic than her, but I'm much more practical, and I know a good solution when I see one. Stackable storage bins, As far as I'm concerned, are one of the best recent inventions. They are multifunctional, pretty well made, and neutral enough to fit in any room comfortably.
