Drum Gloves Help Protect Your Hands

By: Spencer McNight

There are a lot of things in this world I had no idea existed until I married a musician. There are so many different pieces of complicated equipment that you could go broke trying to buy them all. Not everything is intense or expensive however, some of them are rather simple and serve a really great purpose. Things like guitar picks and drum sticks are some things that come to mind, but did you know there was such a thing as drum gloves? I didn't know until recently. Perhaps that is because my husband is a guitar player and not a drummer.

I am not a drummer either, but I have played around with them before. I did nothing more than produce a lot of noise and few chuckles, but I can see why it is so much fun to play them and why you may have a hard time with them if you don't have good timing. I can also see why drum gloves are around, and I wonder how some play the drums without them. You normally have quite a good grip on the sticks when you start, but that can soon change, and the drum gloves become a great idea.

The difference between drum globes and regular gloves are the fingers. Most of them are made so there are no fingers, but the rest of the glove is there to keep the sticks securely in a hand that is going to get very sweaty, but the fingers are touching the stick. Just like when you do anything with your fingers, touching the surface gives you better control. You may have experienced trying to do something like this with gloves on, and if so, you know just what I mean. The gloves are there to help hang on to the stick while allowing the drummer to handle them comfortably. They can also help prevent blisters.

There are some drummers that love to wear the drum gloves, and there are some that can't stand to have them on their hands. This is to be expected. Each drummer learns and plays in a different manner, and if they don't use the drum gloves early enough when learning, they aren't going to have an easy time getting used to them. If you know a drummer that uses them, these can be a great gift. Take care though, and buy them new ones exactly like the ones they already use, or they may not like them. When buying for musicians, being on the safe side is the best bet.
