A Communication System Can Really Help Families

By: Leigh Day

Every business needs some sort of communication system, but most don't consider how important this can be to young families as well. When the kids grow up and move on, you can always call them, but you have to hope that you taught them well enough to know how to take care of themselves. However, before they leave home, you have to think of a way to be sure they are safe when they can't be with you, and that you can reach them when you need them.

The most obvious type of communication system for a family would be cell phones. These can be dangerous in the hands of a child, as they can surely talk a lot. That might mean huge phone bills. This also means you may not always be aware of who is calling them and what is going on. However, there are types that can be programmed to only get and send out calls to certain numbers, and the time on the phone is a bit more controlled. These are some of the best things to get when thinking of a communication system for the family.

When you are going hiking or camping, your family communication system might have to be something a bit more simple. You may find that you don't have any cell reception what so ever when you are out in the woods, and that makes your phones worthless. You may have reception, but you never know where it might drop out. If someone is lost, they may wander out of service and their phone will be useless. This is when you might want to hit the toy or camping aisle at the store for a different types of family communication.

For those times when cell phones simply won't do, you can always find two way radios - otherwise known as walkie-talkies. You don't want to get cheap ones, and you do want to find some that have a wide range. If you have cell phones that have this capability with or without service, those might do just fine, but most don't have that. Instead, find a good quality set that will serve as a useful and reliable family communication system when you need to rely on it the most. They may have seemed like toys when you were a kid, but they can be great when nothing else works and you need to remain in touch at all times. Don't forget the extra batteries.
