Columbus Technical College Is An Educational Facility

The educational system in Georgia is greatly enhanced by the Columbus Technical College, an institution that awards Associate Degrees, Diplomas and Technical Certificates of Credit. Certificates can be earned in a short period of three months and a Diploma can take from twelve to eighteen months.

The Degree courses are for two years. Some students are eligible for financial assistance and the college participates in the Georgia Helping Outstanding Pupils Educationally Program (H.O.P.E). This scheme gives eligible candidates help with the cost of tuition fees, registration fees and text books.

Associate Degrees are awarded across the curriculum in different departments. The School of Applied Business is very popular at Columbus Technical College and subjects include Business Studies, Criminal Justice and Management and Supervisory Development. Information Systems is another well supported faculty and the courses include Microcomputer Specialist and Web Site Design.

The School of Health Sciences curriculum includes Pharmacy Technology, Surgical Technology and Nursing (RN). Diplomas are also given for some subjects in these faculties. The Technical Services Diplomas teach practical skills, such as Air Conditioning Technology, Welding and Joining Technology. Columbus Technical College is therefore, an excellent route to the world of work.

Students must be 16 years of age or over in order to enter the college. In the case of Health Occupations and Cosmetology subjects, they must be 17 years old or more. Candidates must sit a placement test if they want to enroll for credit programs. Columbus Technical College has built a very good relationship with the business sector of the community and 98% of graduates find a job after completing their studies.

Pastoral care of the students is of prime concern to the college and there is a counseling service and a career guidance service. The campus amenities are first class and include a library and student bookstore. The town of Columbus offers students at Columbus Technical College, culture, entertainment and sport. It is home to the Springer Opera House, the State Theatre of Georgia and the River Center for the Performing Arts. Local teams play ice hockey, baseball and indoor football. Columbus also plays host to the annual Riverfest Festival, an event for all the family that takes place over the last weekend in April. There is live music, a battle of the bands competition, arts and crafts displays and a fireworks display. Children have their own activities, including face painting and there is a petting zoo.
