Cold Feet Usually Is An Expression Of Wedding Jitters

By: Lane Klein

cold feet

Most couples on their way to the alter will hear the words cold feet at least once or twice before the wedding, if not more. Some friends may joke about it when a problem comes up, but this is actually something that should be taken more seriously. There are times when doubts come up, and they are nothing more than jitters. However, there are other times when these doubts may signal that a wedding might need to be postponed, or even canceled.

There are times when cold feet is just jitters and there is nothing amiss with the relationship. It's always a huge step to get married, and even those who are eager to do so may find moments when they wonder if they are moving ahead with wisdom or wishful thinking. This type of cold feet usually goes away when that person talks with their spouse to be about what is worrying them, or perhaps they have a chat with friends who can help them understand why they are feeling what they are feeling.

On the other hand, cold feet can mean there are problems that should be resolved before a wedding should take place. Many focus on the wedding so intently that they forget there is a life together afterwards. The feelings of cold feet often come up when someone does think beyond the big day, and they wonder if their fears are just, or if they are just nervous about a huge commitment meant to last forever. Many dismiss these fears too easily, and some times well meaning friends don't help matters much either.

When it appears cold feet is more than just pre-wedding jitters, it's time to talk about postponing the wedding until the matter can be cleared up. It might even be time to cancel, depending on what the issue might be. Some couples go ahead and get married because things are paid for and people are already on their way for the big day. This is a mistake. Money is just money, and though it might hurt to lose some deposits and take a loss on dresses and such, it is a far better option than ending up in a marriage that was doomed before it started. The bigger mistake will be in assuming it'll be okay. Find out if it really will be okay before committing to someone for the rest of your days.
