Information On the Wisconsin Senior Care Program

Like any other state the state of Wisconsin has put into place a new program to help accommodate seniors and the new Medicare prescription drug program released by the federal government in 2006. They call the program the Wisconsin Senior Care prescription program and as you can imagine, like any other government program, the Wisconsin Senior Care program has a lot of rules to be followed and a lot of paperwork to be filled out.

But if you meet the eligibility criteria then the Wisconsin Senior Care program can help you pay for your medications and make life a lot easier by keeping the cost of prescription medicines down. Here are just some of the guidelines for the Wisconsin Senior Care program.

You cannot begin to take the benefits until you reach the age of 65 years old. You are allowed to apply one month prior to your 65th birthday but you will not begin receiving your Wisconsin Senior Care program benefits before the age of 65.

You can find the paperwork to fill out either online or at any aging center and you can have someone at an aging center assist you with the paper work, you can have a family member help you, or you can designate some other responsible adult to complete the forms for you. You can still complete the forms for the Wisconsin Senior Care program if you do not have a social security number but you will be required to get a social security number prior to receiving benefits.

Costs And Other Guidelines

The Wisconsin Senior Care program costs $30 per year for each adult and that does mean $60 per couple. There is no discount for signing up as a couple but you can pay for your and your spouse on the same payment. There will be co-payments for each prescription filled that will be the responsibility of the patient. There is no exception to the $30 per person rule just like there is no exception to the 65 year old rule. Payment is by check or money order and cash cannot be used.

Legal immigrants are encouraged to apply for the Wisconsin Senior Care and it is not necessary to send a copy of your immigration papers unless you are asked to send them in. Anyone that meets the income criteria and the age criteria is welcome to apply and the program is designed to help as many people as it possibly can.
