Learning About the GERD or Gall Bladder Disease

The issue of GERD or gall bladder disease is one that is of great importance and one which everyone should be aware of. There is much to know when it comes to learning about what GERD or gall bladder disease is, as well as what causes it, what the symptoms are, how it is treated, and how to live with it.

What it is

GERD or gall bladder disease is a disease that occurs in the body when the lower esophageal sphincter does not close properly and its stomach contents leak back into the esophagus. This results in causing a burning sensation in the chest or throat which is better known as heartburn. Heartburn can range from being mild to so severe that it is actually debilitating.

GERD or gall bladder disease is often due to a weakening of the tissues that make up the valve like barrier between the esophagus and the stomach and problems with the valve function may include opening at inappropriate times and having a lower than normal pressure.

Symptoms

There are many symptoms of the disease that are typically noticeable at the onset. This includes a burning feeling that starts in the chest just behind the breastbone, burning in the throat, sour or bitter taste in the mouth, belching, chronic coughing, and hoarseness, just to name a few of the most commonly experienced.

Treatment

When it comes to the issue of treatment for GERD or gall bladder disease, there are a few options that have proven to be quite successful. Antacids are the most commonly prescribed treatment but do not work for more severe cases. They work by neutralizing the acid in the stomach so that there is no acid to reflux, and therefore you will not experience any of the painful and uncomfortable symptoms.

There is also histamine antagonists that can be used for treatment here, which basically work just like antacids only are more powerful and work for a longer period of time. They are great for relieving the symptoms of GERD, even when they are very strong. They are used primarily for the treatment of heartburn in GERD that is not associated with inflammation or complications.

To determine which method of treatment is going to be best suited to you and your particular condition, you will need to speak to your doctor and have a proper assessment and diagnosis. After this you will be able to decide which remedy is going to have the desired effect.
