Information about Diabetes Prevention

There is a well established link between the prevalence of diabetes and overweight problem. So, if you are able to reduce your weight to some extent, it means you are progressing on your way towards diabetes prevention. In fact, each and every diabetes prevention program primarily focuses on two aspects ? one is healthy and fat-free diet and the other one is slimming down. Following these aspects rigorously implies complying with a great diabetes prevention program.

Healthy Diet

Without including healthy food in your regular diet, you could not possibly be a part of any effective diabetes prevention and management program. An ideal healthy diet for diabetes prevention must be able to keep blood glucose level from increasing too high or decreasing too low. If you eat excessive food, it can result in developing an unusual increase in the glucose level in the bloodstream.

Alternatively, if the glucose level drops excessively, it may also lead to serious health complication. This condition is known as hypoglycemia. At this state, you may experience nervousness, wobbly, weakness and fogginess. Hence, the motto should be aligned with establishing stability in the blood glucose level.

In order to maintain a homeostasis in your blood glucose level, you can follow the diet recommendations suggested by National Diabetes Information Clearinghouse (NDIC). It says that you need to consume same amount of food daily. You should take your meal every day at the same time. Most importantly, you must not skip any meal snacks. Quite obviously, low-fat, low-cholesterol diet is ideal for diabetic patient.

Exercise

Exercise is another effective mode of diabetes prevention. If you are diagnosed with diabetes, you should not be late to start off your journey with exercise and diet. If both can be combined effectively, they can offer benefit as equal as it is received from medications, but without any possible side effects. Walking is the ideal exercise to follow. Additionally, aerobic exercises, strength training, swimming, cycling and flexibility training can offer you a good gear. If you are considering for a walk, you must be careful about your foot health, a important concern for individuals suffering from diabetes particularly.

You must wear a diabetes ID bracelet while doing your exercise or walking. Do not forget to carry glucose pills and hard candy or sweet snacks with you. These may become essential if your blood glucose level starts falling rapidly. However, you must take the consent from the physician before you start practicing exercise. Follow your doctor's guidance about when to check blood glucose levels. Doctors may ask you to take the reading pre, post and even during exercising schedule.
