iPhone Battery Life

Apple Ipod's have become almost ubiquitous of MP3 players, and perhaps the new iPhone smartphone from Apple can become the new standard of smartphone's everywhere.

The phone's touch system is of course it's most remarkable attribute. The commercials are everywhere and it seems that public consciousness has been altered by the stunning feature set of the phone. The iPhone is basically a smartphone with all kinds of multimedia capabilities. It plays Mp3's, podcasts, videos, connects to the internet and does it all wirelessly. It offers two levels of storage, 4 gigabytes and 8 gigabytes, giving the user plenty of storage for all these multimedia capabilities. The phone is powered by a proprietary Apple battery.

According to Apple, the iPhone battery has a talk time rating of eight hours, while internet usage time is estimated at six hours, depending on the video format the battery should last up to seven hours, twenty-four hours of podcast and music playback, and a very impressive two hundred fifty hours of standby time power.

None of the iPhone competitors come close to matching the battery capacity of the iPhone. The iPhone with it's eight hours of talk time, doubles the capacity of the Nokia N95, the Blackberry Curve 8300, and the Palm Treat 750. Each of those phones only boasts a 4 hour talk time rating. While the Samsung Blackjack is eclipsed as well with it's talktime rating of 5.5 hours.

Apple obviously produced a very impressive product with these long talk times.

Not all is roses with the Apple iPhone however. The iPhone battery is internal and cannot be removed, while it's competitors have easily replaceable batteries.

I've owned a Palm Treo for years. Myself and many other Treo users know about our battery life issues, for that reason I often have a battery replacement with me and charged. So in case the battery goes dead, I can quickly replace it with the backup battery. This cannot happen with the iPhone, you must recharge the battery to be able to use it again.

The other problem with the Apple's iPhone battery system is that eventually when the battery dies you have another issue. The battery can only be replaced by a licensed Apple technician either locally or by shipping the iPhone to a service location.

The iPhone is a very capable phone that won't be hampered by insufficient battery life. We think you'll be well pleased with it.
