Lloyd Burns
The World of Warcraft and with all its expansion versions has captivated the gaming public more than any other MMORPG ever. Actually that statement is an understatement as it might just fail to reveal the extent the gaming world has been fascinated by this game ever since its release since 2004. It has the highest number of paid subscribers than any other game in the same genre. This has given rise to the question if it is becoming a religion.
World of Warcraft is a game played the world over. It has over eight million playing fans worldwide. This number far exceeds the number of many countries in the world today. About one and half million players are said to be in Europe while North America has an impressive two million. China boosts an awe inspiring number of three and half million players. This is no longer just a game as it affects more than just gaming world. It is fast becoming a new worldwide craze.
According to many of its players one of the major attractions to the World of Warcraft is the fact that it is multi-leveled. It allows you grow from as a struggling lowlife in its basic levels into a master strategist at the top levels. The original version of World of Warcraft had 60 levels. The Burning Crusade patch version has up to 70 levels while the expected yet to be released Lich King Version will have players struggling up to level 80.
The game has created its own lingua based on terms from the game. Players can chat with each other through the game's interface using the game's own special language. The number of players for the World of Warcraft hasn't dwindled in the years after its release, and there seems to be no chance for it to happen in the near future. It is not wrong to say that among the reverent gaming population of the world, the World of Warcraft is nothing short of a religion.
With the number of players of the World of Warcraft not reducing over the years but increasing in size and dedication, can it really be wrong to say that in the gaming world, the World of Warcraft has become a revered religion? Ask any of their dedicated member players and you find the answer.
