How To Help Your Student Motivation Be A Success

By: Mick Thompson

Enhancing Student Motivation for Learning

Student motivation requires a student to hold interest and desire for success in the learning process called education. It is confirmed that without student motivation, learning is ineffective.

Students who have a high level of motivation are active participants in their academics and eagerly take on the college experience with vigor. Less student motivation is a result of little interest in school itself. They may think that school is boring and unnecessary. You will find student motivation and student participation go hand in hand. These students know that opportunity rarely comes more than once, so they take advantage of every given opportunity that they are given.

Student motivation evokes excitement, positive attitudes, effort, and the desire to succeed in the minds of those who are willing to beat all the odds. School should be a fun place, but sometimes there are conflicts with teacher and student personality that can discourage the student. If a student feels threatened or negatively challenged, it may cause them to become less motivated about school. On the other hand, if they have a reason to succeed, it will make all the difference in the world.

Both teacher and instructor play a huge role in counseling this student who becomes less motivated. One of the techniques that teachers or instructors can use to renew interest in the class or classes is instances of socialization and modeling to help the student to maintain structure. The goal for student motivation in these cases is to help the student to focus on the actual learning process without concern for any other outside elements.

Less Motivated Students

Students who are less motivated are not focused and don’t care much about school. These students can be disrupted to the entire classroom. They often become failures in the end and have no mental capacity for success. These students need constant guidance and a change in attitude if they are to succeed in any way. The teacher or instructor may implement motivational techniques like extrinsic motivation that engages the student into more participation and gives them rewards for their efforts or punishment if they fail.

Another motivational technique that will get less motivated students to act positively is to involve them in activity that they enjoy. In most cases, it can be a group assignment or project that makes them feel like they are contributing to a good cause. These students would probably prefer this type of motivation because it does not come with any consequences.
