It is such a popular scene about outdoor Christmas decorations that it is not uncommon to hear the term "Griswold" as a slang term for someone who completes and outdoor Christmas decoration display that is over-the-top for excessiveness.

There are many different ways to decorate for the holidays using outdoor Christmas decorations. The subtle but elegant icicle dangling lights that glow a soft white, making the house appear to having icicles hanging softly down from the gutters. Another popular outdoor Christmas decoration is the nativity scene that replicates the night in Bethlehem when Jesus was born. Many of these nativity scenes vary from wooden statues to plastic forms designed to withstand the elements for many years.

While the style of outdoor Christmas decorations is a personal expression that celebrates the joy of the season, it is true that nearly everyone enjoys viewing all of the personal expressions.
