There may be times in life when you are going to want to get access to various types of court records. You probably won’t give this much thought until the day comes when it is necessary. Court and/or criminal records are usually open to anyone who requests them, though most have no idea that this is the case. Some are sealed for reasons stated in the Freedom of Information Act exceptions, but that will only apply to very few, and probably not any of the ones you might be seeking.
Court records can be used to find someone that you may be looking for. We often lose touch with friends and even family, and if we can’t find them, these records might point in their direction. We also may need to find people who might owe money for various reasons, or perhaps do not want to be found. When those things happen, court records are also useful in locating someone. However, if they have not been to court for anything, obviously nothing is going to come up when you search.
Court records can also indicate that someone you have chosen to be close to your children might not be the best choice after all. Some people have a criminal record and have turned their lives around for the better, but that is not something you would ever know if you didn’t look for court records. Some might still be less than honest, and that is important information for you to know. When hiring anyone to be with your children, or to work in and around your home for any reason, finding out if they have any records is always an excellent idea.
If you aren’t sure how to go about finding court records, you can have someone else do the searching for you. This does not really cost very much money, and will save you a load of time. You may hire a private investigator, but there are many times when that is not necessary. Look around online for a company that can search court records for you, and see what they have to offer and how much it will cost you. In some cases, the small fee for the information will be well worth the peace of mind it might offer you. What you do with what you find, or don’t find, will be up to you, but at least you know.
