Long before Converse Chuck Taylor high tops were a retro high fashion, they were pretty popular footwear for poor kids – at least in the neighborhood where I grew up. The great thing about Converse high tops was that they were always affordable. When I was a kid, a lot of the rich kids on the basketball team had expensive Nikes, Reeboks, or Adidas shoes. My Converse shoes, by contrast, did not look all that glamorous. You see, back then Converse high tops were not a good way to show off. About the only thing that they showed was that the wearer did not have very much money.
Nonetheless, I really loved them. They were simply constructed, lightweight, and pretty comfortable to wear as well. They also looks a lot better to me than most of those other kinds of athletic shoes. Converse high tops had this sort of old-school classic design for them. Most modern athletic shoes have all kinds of unnecessary lines, brightly colored decals, and all kinds of other gadgets that get in the way of a smooth, classy design. The Converse high tops sneaker, however, has always stayed more or less the same. It is a simple canvas and rubber shoe, and perfectly suited for basketball as well as a variety of other sports.
A lot of people said that the Converse high tops I was wearing did not have enough ankle support, but I never noticed any problem. I suppose if you have weak ankles, you probably want to get a different kind of basketball shoe. In my case, however, I never had a significant foot, knee, or ankle injury the whole time I played basketball. On the contrary, although I wasn't all that good, I was one of the most consistent players out there. I was always a solid team member, never sick or off the court for even a moment.
Nowadays, i do not play sports anymore. Nonetheless, I still really like to put on those Converse high tops. At the end of a long day, instead of wearing a pair of slippers or going around in my bare feet, I always prefer to relax in a beaten up, worn out, old pair of sneakers. I don't know why, but there is nothing that is quite as comfortable for me. They have even replaced my ripped jeans as my favorite thing to wear.
