When I was growing up, I considered many possible careers. First of all, of course, I wanted to be a fire man. A little later, after watching a few cops and robbers movies, I decided that I either wanted to be a cop or a bank robber. As I grew up, my dreams continued to change. The only career, in fact, that I did not at one time or another contemplate is the one that I ended up with. Never did I imagine that I would grow up to design bed linens.
I came to my career as a luxury bed linen designer in a sort of odd, round-about way. You see, I have always been a light sleeper. From my earliest days, I had insomnia. I would worry all night long about this and that, tossing and turning. My parents were both pretty worried about me. They tried everything that they could think of, but none of it seemed to work. Finally, in desperation, my parents bought me a new mattress and fine bed linens. I slept like a baby.
It turned out that, if my bed was comfortable enough, almost nothing could wake me up. Sleeping on the discount bed sheets that my mom and dad had always bought made it hard for me to get any rest during the night. Once I was able to sleep on those wonderful high thread count sheets, however, I was sleeping nine or ten solid hours every single night of the week!
The only thing that I had never liked about those bed linens was the way they looked. They were this bland off-white that didn't really match anything in my room. I knew that my parents would be mad if they saw me tampering with my sheets, so I silk-screened them in secret. It was only a matter of time, however, until my mom caught me. Rather than being angry, however, she was actually amazed. She told me that the bed linens looked beautiful!
From that point, it was only a matter of time until I was printing them professionally. At first I did it as a cottage industry, but soon I was able to actually get me bed linens commercially printed. No one was surprised when I opened my own bed mattress store, and they were all happy for me when it started to do really well!
