The digestive system of a dog is very similar to a cat's in many ways. Their digestive systems are acidic, and these canine creatures do not have long intestines. They are made to digest one type of protein at a time, not multiples (like man-made foods). Again, raw meats are full of B- vitamins that are very important to good health. Out in the wild, dogs don't BBQ, fry, grill or bake their kills - they eat it raw, just as nature intended.
Pet foods have more food additives and artificial ingredients than processed foods do for humans according to many people. This is the only way, they say, to make the foods desirable for the pet. This is primarily due to the poor quality of pet food ingredients in general.
As with the cat, vegetables are a vital part of a dog's diet. No, they didn't go hunting for veggies. The prey they killed provided the predigested vegetables. If you were to give your dog or cat a carrot, you would see it again when they pooped! They do not have the intestinal make-up to eat and digest veggies on their own. The stomach is one of the first places that a carnivore will search when they make a kill. Some will only eat the stomach contents and leave the rest. Organ meats are their second favorite.
Dogs will eat non-stop as long as the food is in front of them. Don't don't chew, the swallow whole the food they eat. If your dog regularly eats disgusting things such as vomit, poop, dead animals and rotten garbage, they are probably looking for the nutrients that are missing in their daily diet. A good diet will more than likely eliminate these habits. Feeding home-made foods to your dog will allow them to regulate themselves and get on their own schedule.
Dogs and cats are not natural grazers, by nature they eat until they are satisfied and then they rest, digest and eliminate before the next feeding.just like they do in the wild. I have seem wild animal shows where lions with big full bellies can walk right next to Antelope, zebra and wildebeest without even looking at them. They only kill when they need too. This goes for wild dogs also.
It's not necessary for a dog that is fed a well-balanced diet to drink as much water as dogs not fed well. This is because the food provides the necessary moisture content their bodies need. A good thing to remember is to always feed your pet as you would feed yourself. Organic home- made foods are best of course. along with good distilled water.
Your pets will decide what they like and don't like. They will let you know because some like meat more than vegetables. If your pets are unsure about their new diet, add small amounts of the home-made food a little at a time. In time you will have converted them over. Just remember not to feed them onions, chocolate, and fish!
