Self Motivation With Your Other-Than-Conscious Mind

By: Kenrick Cleveland

"It is as if evolution has built a safety device in our nervous system that allows us to experience full happiness only when we are living at 100% - when we are fully using the physical and mental equipment we have been given." ~Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi

Are you living at 100%? Physically, mentally, spiritually, persuasively? The search for meaning and fulfillment and happiness are within all of us and yet out of reach for many. Why? Why do some people struggle with money, relationships, weight issues, and lack of motivation while others breeze through life with their paths laid out before them, living up to their full potential?

As we've evolved, we've also gotten distracted and lost touch with our other-than-conscious selves. When we reorient ourselves to communicating with our other-than-conscious, amazing things can happen.

A really cool way to look at your other-than-conscious mind is regarding it as your gentle genie, or guardian angle. Its only function is to give you what you ask for.

The gentle giant is a power capable of being harnessed to aid us in our pursuit of fulfillment. They've been with us since the minute we were born and since then, they've been learning by observing what it is we hear and do.

All of our unconscious learning gets filtered into this gentle giant for later use.

As children we were conditioned whether that be through rewards, punishments, through school and experiences. Our other-than-conscious learned too--it learned to expect certain ways of being, creating metaphorical maps of what we could expect out of life based on this early conditioning.

The subconscious has many roles, one of which is a powerful self persuader.

One is to keep you alive and the other thing is to make you keep on doing what you've been doing. That's where problems can come in and can lead to us feeling stuck or held back emotionally. You want to raise your game, not stay the same.

The other-than-conscious has the potential to be sabotaged by our negative conditioning. If we say to ourselves, 'I can't do that', our gentle giant think, 'Oh. Okay. I can't do that.' This part of the brain also has the function of turning an activity or thought into a habit putting it on auto pilot so we don't have to consciously use up space thinking about it. This can be both positive and negative for us.

Reframing our other-than-conscious as a partner instead of something we don't really think too much about or consider very often, gives us tremendous power.

So the big question is: how do we befriend this gentle giant? Well. . . how do you make any other friend? You gain rapport with them. It's that easy.

I first heard this and thought, 'This is nuts. Talking to myself? Why do I have to make friends with myself?' But I'll tell you what. . . I've noticed a significant difference in my life.

And this is how to do it: Give yourself a little pep talk. Ask for what you need help with. 'Dear Gentle Giant. . . I'd love to double our income. I think we're absolutely worth it.' Or maybe, 'Hi. I know we've had some rocky relationships and there has been a bad pattern created and now, I'd like to end that and have a great connection. What do you think? Let's do it together.'

Or maybe, "I'd love it if my persuasion skills went through the roof and you are the one to really turn to in seeking an ally." Just try it and see what kind of results you get.

Everything that you are, everything that you do, and everything that you have began with your intention to have it in one way or another is controlled by your other-than-conscious mind. All you have to do is tap into your persuasive power and your persuasion skills will naturally develop.
