Try One Of These Four Tips To Watch TV On The Computer

   By: Marc Sandford

Imagine viewing with your PC the thousands of videos, TV shows and movies that the Internet has to offer. If you have a laptop, then your TV viewing can be done on the go wherever you have access to the Internet.

Things are even more interesting if your Internet connection is wireless. These are just a few of the benefits of watching TV on the computer and this article will give you four tips on how to do this.

1) Did you know that there is a ton of free movie classics, old TV shows and documentaries available for your viewing in the public domain? The public domain contains content with expired copyrights and is totally free for your consumption.

This material can be easily found with a search engine where your search query has a phrase containing 'public domain' plus 'video' or 'film', etc. If you give the search some effort, it shouldn't take long to find lots of these 'golden oldies'.

2) Try using a TV tuner card to convert your PC into a television set that receives and displays video signals to your monitor. Most TV tuner cards will also allow you to record and playback whatever show you wish to watch at a later time.

Note that this method does not involve using the Internet since your PC is getting video signals directly off the 'air waves'. A quality tuner card can cost you anywhere from $100 to $200 although plenty of cheaper cards exist.

3) Of all the ways to watch movies on your PC, there is one method guaranteed to give you DVD quality: Insert a DVD into your CD-ROM drive! If you don't have a media player with this capability, you will have to find one that does.

You can download it free at Realplayer.com. Find the yellow 'Get it free' button, click on it and follow instructions. When you're finished with the download and installation, insert a DVD, start the player, open the 'play' menu and click 'Play CD or DVD'.

4) A more recent method to watch TV on the computer is the use of a software download that enables your PC to pick up satellite TV via the Internet. Because the TV shows are transmitted online, there are no hardware requirements other than having an Internet connection that is reasonably fast.

This software can cost from $40 to $100 and will give you access to over 3000 channels and shows world wide. Once the software is purchased and installed, a lifetime of unrestricted access is yours.

There is a lot of good stuff out there just waiting to be tapped into using your computer and Internet connection. Internet TV and video is in an expansion phase and can only increase even further in the years ahead.

If you haven't done so already, you really need to explore this great new medium.
