Ads With No Adwords
by Kirt Christensen
Google Adwords and AdSense have become the rage in internet marketing, enough so that many have forgotten there are other means of advertising which can be equally successful and require the investment of much smaller amounts of capital.
For those who are unfamiliar with the method AdWords is what is known as a pay per click marketing venture; every time the advertisement is viewed the advertiser is charged a small fee.
This fee is generally less than a dollar but can quickly add up over time, particularly if the keywords chosen for the ad are ones that are very popular and are therefore going to generate a large number of false leads. It is a gamble, and in the same manner as a casino it requires very little effort for a pay per click marketing campaign to slowly drain the coffers of a company's advertising budget.
Luckily, as hard as this may be to believe, Google's game is not the only game in town. Adwords is also not the most widely used. A wise internet marketer who will look past Adwords will find the time wisely spent growing your profits not draining your budget.
A blog or forum is a very cheap way to use the power of social networking to get your name and cause 'out there'. A blog or forum is very useful for people who are interested in a certain topic to meet with others of similar interest. This is a great way to get some exposure.
If an advertiser puts a post on a blog whose topic is related to his product or website, and in that post he includes a link to his website he can increase his websites exposure to people interested in what he sells. And he doesn't have to put out any cash.
One other method is to post an advertisement on another businesses website. Your choice of sites is the thing to focus on, and the use of careful analysis to discover sites that people interested in your subject might visit often is important.
There are three methods of advertising on another individuals site.
For an advertisement you can create a text or banner ad for the site then pay them to post the ad. Use caution though, this might not be better then the ppc method; except if they will charge a normal fee based on the amount of time your ad is displayed.
The other two methods utilize the power of strong web content. There are many companies who pay writers to create informational articles to be posted on their websites in order to improve their reputation and increase the number of visitors to their site.
To help others build content and get free advertising you can practice what is known as 'link building'. The way you do this is create an article on a topic related to your product or website, then offer this article to a related website as content so long as they put your name and site information at the bottom as a resource.
In order for link building to work optimally, the reader of the article has to actually finish the article, read the resource box, and then be curious enough to want to check out the writer's website. However you will be limited by the short length of time that the average internet user is willing to devote to any one thing.
Instead, the author can write an article which will have links to key information locations on their own website scattered throughout the article. If the reader comes to a point where they wish to explore an idea more thoroughly or they cannot grasp what is going on they can select the link and it will instantly transport them to the other site.
Because this type of article, aka hosted web content, takes visitors away from their site it is most likely that you be charged a fee for the display of it.
Using the strategies we discussed internet advertisers can make a profit without risking getting cut by the double edged sword known as AdWords. Thus doing business and maintaining their pride and keeping their bank account whole.
