Traveling Abroad - What Clothing To Take by Jamal Tenretni

The time for that trip abroad is almost here. Now you just need to pack for it. This brings us to the issue of what to take and wear when traveling abroad. Here are a few tips that will help you take everything you need without taking too much.

Before you start packing, it is important to gain some perspective. Just because you are traveling abroad does not mean you are leaving this planet. All countries sell some form of pants, shirts and shoes. In short, you can always buy it there if necessary.

I am going on a trip, so I need to buy a bunch of new clothes! This is absolutely the wrong approach. You have no idea how new clothes will feel after a week. Stick with clothes you are comfortable in and wear all the time.

Never take new shoes on a trip. You are asking for an unpleasant experience in blisters. When you travel, you are inevitably going to be walking more than normal. Make sure you take shoes that are already broken in or you will regret it in a big way.

The most important piece of your clothing ensemble may seem to be underwear, but it is not. Nope. All travelers bow before the altar of the clean socks. Whatever you do, take plenty of clean cotton socks. Your feet will thank you.

Being color co-ordinated on your travels is a controversial subject. On one hand, you don't know anyone so who cares? If you feel differently, try to pack clothes in one color scheme. You can trade them in and out and still look decent.

I have some fine slacks and shirts. Unfortunately, I have only worn them a few times over the years. Should I take them on my trip on the possiblity a special occassion will arise? Probably not and neither should you.

When going to another country, you must know their customs and respect them. If the custom is to wear pants instead of shorts, do it even if it is hot as Hades. This is particularly true for women in certain parts of the world.

Packing for your trip should be about getting the maximum light stuff in the smallest space possible. The best way to do this is to take rollable clothes. Think wrinkle free. Just roll them up and stick them in. A good use of space.

Don't stress out when packing. You will inevitably forget something. This is just the nature of things. Having traveled for years, I can tell you that the forgotten item can always be found eventually in whatever location you find yourself.
