Duck and Cover-How My Home Based Business Almost Got Me Killed
by Mr. William Fontane Shut
Wow! I guess I should've brought my outfielder's mitt today. It's the middle of the day on a Monday and I've already had four foul balls fly right by me. My good friend Leonard invited me to the game so we can both see how well our respective home businesses are doing in the marketplace.
It's the Giants versus the Cubs but we don't really care who wins, we just do this ever so often as a way to enjoy the fruits of our labor. Every time we get together we sarcastically thank our bosses for letting us have the day off with pay to basically shoot the breeze all day. We do this to celebrate the fact that we are our own bosses with our own home based businesses in which we call the shots.
While most people are slaving at their job, we're at a ballpark dodging baseballs and eating peanuts. Great thing about being here is that I'll still make about $200 bucks today from my home business and I haven't even done any work. An eight year quest has culminated into me having my ideal life.
Foul Ball! I got it! I got it! I thought I had it because I used to play softball for a local team. It's been years since those days- way before I started my home business and I quickly remember that I'm no athlete once the ball hits my knuckles. Hey, maybe this could spark a new idea for promoting a new product.
I started to blame my injury of my home business- claim that if I still had my nose to the grindstone at my old job there would be no ballgames- just work, work, work, then death! Though I'm a little bruised, I was the one who lunged for the ball, so I'm the fool, not my home business. And this pain is nothing compared to the pain of complacency-the pain that comes from being afraid to follow a passion.
At the sight of two more speeding flashes I duck and cover and continue talking shop with my buddy. He's telling me about some new marketing technique that grew his earnings from the previous two years. And I school him on how to further monetize his home business efforts. And like the aligning of stars or something, we start spewing about new partnerships we've forged with an advertising company. His partner sounds a lot like my partner- and without even discussing it until now, we've positioned ourselves and our home based businesses in a prime spot for rapid growth.
My, how time flies as we compare the specifics of each other's deal with the new rising startup. After expounding on a lucrative 75% commission split, my old frat brother thinks he's won the free beer the other has to buy for the one with the "Best Strategic Move of the Week". I quickly rebut with the fact that I may not be getting a seventy-five percent payout but I did convince my new partner that in order to use my home based business as a conduit for their products' mass consumption, they would have to match my advertising costs with money of their own; and they did.
Walking towards the parking lot after the game gave me an opportunity to access my progress in my home based business. To be truthful, I started with a lot of passion but not much action. But as soon as I figured out how to follow my words with actions I was well on my way to enjoying finer things. I believe that everyone is destined to do great things you just have to make sure you stay on your path.
