When you think of states with a wide variety of colleges and universities, Alabama might not be the first state that comes to mind. But, the fact is that Alabama is the home of one of the most unique colleges in the United States.
In fact, the United States Sports Academy, is a one of a kind institution...an institution which specializes in preparing students for careers in athletics and sports-related organizations.
The academy focuses on adult learners, offering full time and part time as well as online and on-campus degree options.
In addition to their degree programs, USSA offers eight certificate programs in areas including, sports coaching, sports management, and fitness.
There are bachelors degree completion programs offered for students interested in sports management, coaching, and sports studies.
The Academy offers masters degrees in sports coaching, sports management, sports fitness, sports medicine, and sport studies, as well as a doctor of education degree in sports management.
As you might guess, many Academy graduates have wound up in college coaching, including Greg McDermott (Iowa State- mens basketball), Jeff Mittie (Texas Christian University- womens basketball), and Mike Leach, the football coach at Texas Tech.
Graduates of USSA who have found their way into the pro ranks include Dennis Lindsey, assistant general manager of the NBA San Antonio Spurs, and Nashville Predators director of hockey operations, Michael Santos.
There are many universities which offer programs in coaching and athletic administration, but few offer as many programs as USSA does both online and via traditional degree programs. And, there is no other U.S. college or university which specializes in preparing students for careers in athletics.
