You have several options if you require an overnight stay at one of the Manchester airport hotels. Two that are within 5 minutes walking distance from the airports 1 and 3 terminals are Bewleys hotel and The Crown Plaza.
Bewleys Hotel rooms cost 79 ($160) regardless of the day of the week. It is classed as a 3 star but probably just about deserves a 3.5 thanks to the fact they have just had wireless fitted which comes included in the price.
The rooms are nice enough and if you are looking for manchester airport hotels than chances are you just need somewhere to get your head down while you await your connecting flight and you will find Bewleys hotel ideally suited for just that purpose.
You will find reasonably priced food in the dining area as well as bar and an ATM. A nice touch was the receptionist asking what time my flight was in the morning and then receiving an early morning call making sure I was up and reminding me how long before my flight check in was open. Having showered and gone down to check out of The Bewley, I was then offered a complimentary shuttle service to the departures.
The Crown Plaza hotel is next door to The Bewley and like several other Manchester airport hotels, caters for the business flyer. Everything at The Crown Plaza is aimed at the expense account, although for my 135 ($270) I did get a buffet breakfast included. Playstation games, movies etc. were all charged to your credit card. Room service was available throughout the night although at $20 a beef burger, it was on the expensive side. The rooms were spacious by European standards and the hotels 4 star status was just about deserved.
An internet service was freely available through LAN as was a shuttle service although no cash machine, which is a problem for people having a stop over at one of the manchester airport hotels.
One major plus for the Crown Plaza was its airport car parking facilities. At around 15 ($30) a day it seemed to be priced competitively for short stays, for instance if you were flying Manchester Gatwick for a days business in London.
During the time I stayed at both The Crown Plaza and The Bewley (July 2007) I found the staff to be eager to please and pleasant and I can recommend both these Manchester airport hotels. For the business traveler who is perhaps flying into Manchester and requires somewhere for a meeting or two and has an expense account then the Crown Plaza would be the first choice. If on the other hand, you simply need somewhere to rest up while on a long journey, The Bewley offers good value compared to other Manchester airport hotels. If you need cheaper, you may find you will need to travel into the city.
