7 Steps For A Money-Making PPC Campaign
by Jeff Alderson
One of the most effective and nearly instant ways to drive traffic to a website is Pay Per Click aka PPC. If you do not already have an account with Google AdWords, I suggest you set one up right away. Using Google AdWords or a similar service like Yahoo! Search Marketing, your ad can be displayed on their search engine results pages for the specific keywords you bid on that are related to your website.
In order to succeed in PPC advertising, you must learn how it all works and how your online business can benefit. PPC is really just keyword bidding for search engine placement. A money-making PPC campaign involves planning and a little bit of research. To beat your competition, implement the following 7 steps:
1. Understand your target market: You should never start a campaign until you conduct market research in your niche. I suggest that you run searches on Google for your top keywords and study the first page results including paid and organic listings.
2. Set a budget: This is very important. If you do not set a budget, you can quickly lose a ton of money. I like to start with a daily budget of only $5.00. You can always change this at any time.
3. Choose keywords: The keywords you use will either convert visitors into sales or not do so. There is really no way to know ahead of time how a specific keyword will perform. I suggest creating a list of at least 10 targeted keywords initially. It is also a good idea to use brackets for the keyword (eg. [car parts]).
4. Bid intelligently: First of all, never bid too high for any keywords until you are certain the keyword converts. I like for my ads to appear in positions 2 - 4. My goal is always to get on the first page, unless the cost is prohibitive. I do not like to appear deeper than the second page for any keywords.
5. Write quality advertisements: If you are unsure how to create a good ad, then the best thing to do is run a few searches on Google and study the ads that appear. You only need to look at the first page results. These are the most effective ads generally speaking. You will notice that many of the ads use the keyword phrase in the title. This works really well.
6. Use professional landing pages: The landing pages on your site must be targeted to the keywords you are bidding on. If you don't do this, your sales will suffer. Search Google for "landing page optimization" to get some ideas. Lastly, be sure to double check for spelling and grammatical errors and make sure all your hyperlinks links work.
7. Analyze the results: Many PPC advertisers ignore this step and their profits are adversely affected. You must take the time to log in to your account every few days. If your ad CTR is low, then split test another version. As I mentioned before, some keywords will not convert. Delete these keywords without hesitation and try new ones often.
If you really want to dominate PPC and boost your website profits, I suggest you incorporate all of the steps outlined in this article. These steps are very simple to follow, yet they are extremely effective and profitable.
