Business Owners, Market Yourself and Make a Profit
by Debra Wright
How do you market yourself like the "big Boys?" Have you ever gone to Disney World, or gone to Bass Pro Shop, and looked at their clothes, and other items to purchase? If so, you may have noticed something. Walt Disney World sells very little that doesn't have Disney or Mickey Mouse, or some other copyrighted name imprinted on it, that effectively advertises their brand.
People are happily paying Disney, Bass Pro Shops, NASCAR, Coca Cola, and other big names for the right to advertise their companies for them by buying their shirts, hats, collectibles, and a host of other items that have their name on them. Of course, not everything they sell has their names on them, but a number of them do, and this just helps the companies' bottom line.
Do you think you could do something similar? Do you sell something in your store or business, from pencils, to drink cups, tote bags, can holders, t-shirts, calendars, keychain holders, flashlights, you name it. Any of these could be a candidate for your imprint and be advertising for you.
Think about it. These are things people need and will buy anyway, and if you give them a good deal, most people will not mind if your name is on it. You can price it at your cost, or a little above if there is room, and know that you are advertising your company.
The purpose of advertising is to make your name and services known. In this way, you can advertise your business' name, possibly your address and phone number, and it can be on items that people may keep for months, or even years. Then, when they are ready to buy, your name will be the first one they think about.
You will not only be advertising your business to the people who buy your products, but also to other people who they come in contact with. If someone buys a coffee cup with your name on it, and takes it to work, it may be seen by their coworkers. If you put it on an umbrella, then people who he sees when it rains will also see your name. Over time, your name could be seen by tens and hundreds of people. Just think of the name recognition, and all from something you made a profit on.
There are other options, of course. You could buy an advertisement in a newspaper or magazine, but you have no way of knowing if your advertisement will be read, and it will probably just be thrown away in a day or two after it comes out. You have spent your hard-earned money on the ad, usually with little or no response. OR, you could spend that money on imprinting your name on items you can sell, and know that it will be seen and used, while advertising your business for you.
Marketing is big business, and you can be right there with the Big Boys. Get in the game, and do it the smart way. Your bottom line will thank you.
