It goes without saying that there are a wide variety of fish you can focus on when you head out with your reel. It is undisputed, however, that the trout is one of the more common targets for most fisherman. Following is a breakdown of the different classes.
Regardless of where you are in the world, it seems you can always find a fishing hole with trout present. There are so many varieties of trout that you might not recognize them, but just look for fins without spines and a small fin above the tail.
Trout also are found in general geographic profiles. These include lakes, rivers and streams that have cooler water. Given this broad definition, it is hardly a surprise that they are found in Asia, North American, Europe, Australia and New Zealand.
The brown trout is one of the most common fish found. It is a freshwater fish, but variations have adapted to saltwater environments. The brown trout prefers covered areas and lots of oxygen in the water. It also prefers slightly warmer water than other trout.
The cutthroat trout is a popular game fish with fishermen, particularly for fly fishing. It is part of the salmon trout family and is found mostly in North America. There is a lot of variety in the cutthroat. Their color can range from black to gold and all shades between.
A hugely common variation of the trout is the rainbow. It is from the salmon family of trout and is very hardy being found in different freshwater locations in forty plus countries. It is distinguished by a red or pink strip on its side.
When it comes to trout, the steelhead carries a special place in most peoples? hearts. A good game fish, it is the saltwater version of the rainbow. It tends to be much bigger than its brother fish and is distinguished by its lack of a strip on its side.
The lake trout is better known as the mackinaw. It is found throughout many larger freshwater lakes in North America and is considered a great game fish. It is also the biggest trout on average with the world record being 65 pounds.
Trout fishing is one of the common pillars of fishing. In one form or another, trout can be found all over the world from North America to Asian and beyond. When in doubt, go trout as the saying goes. Of course, now you just need to catch them.
