Ski Vacations In Colorado Need Not Break Your Budget

By: Sky Hudgins

Skiing is unfortunately a very expensive sport. However, that does not mean that there are not affordable ski vacations in Colorado and other places. Finding affordable ski vacations in Colorado only requires that a person go off the beaten path a bit. To get an affordable ski vacation in Colorado, a person should try some of the ski resorts. That may be slightly off the beaten path, yet just as good as the most popular resorts (if not better).

Powderhorn Ski Resort

Powderhorn ski resort is located less than an hour from Grand Junction, Colorado. This ski resort is somewhat less well-known as it is relatively far away from the Denver area as well as Vail, Aspen, and other well-known resorts. Powderhorn is a good ski resort for families. It is less expensive than many other resorts and it is located close to Grand Junction, Colorado which offers many other tourist sites and activities as well.

Powderhorn is a good resort for beginning and intermediate skiers, although advanced skiers may not find it as challenging as other resorts. This is a great resort for a family ski vacation in Colorado because it offers classes, good skiing for a decent price, and access to other great tourist attractions in Grand Junction.

Crested Butte Ski Resort

Crested Butte is a ski resort located near Gunnison, Colorado. Gunnison is relatively close to Montrose, Colorado, which has a small commercial airport. Crested Butte offers fantastic skiing for skiers of all levels of ability and is an excellent resort to take a ski vacation in Colorado. Crested Butte is generally less expensive than other ski resorts because it is further from Denver than many ski areas. This resort offers great lodging along with lessons and other activities for the whole family.

Wolf Creek Ski Resort

Due to its distance from major airports, Wolf Creek Ski Resort is almost an undiscovered gem of a resort. Located in Southeastern Colorado, this resort generally boasts the most powder and overall snowfall of any ski resort in Colorado during the ski season. This resort is a bit of a drive from most major airports, but it will offer less-expensive rates than many ski vacations in Colorado. This resort has some of the best skiing in the state, with runs designed for all levels of skiers from beginner to advanced. It also has great accommodations and lessons. Wolf Creek Ski resort is also very close to Pagosa Springs, Colorado, which offers fantastic sites and exceptional natural hot springs.
