Whakapapa Is The Biggest Ski Resort In New Zealand
The biggest ski resort in New Zealand is without a doubt the one situated at Mt. Ruapehu and which has the rather odd sounding name of Whakapapa, which is just two hundred miles away from Auckland and with twenty lifts and excellent snow even in late season, is well worth trying out. In the South Island, you will find other excellent New Zealand skiing destinations including Mount Hutt that is a mere one hour by road from Christchurch and which has about 4.5m of snowfall each year on average and where you will find excellent skiing opportunities especially on the South Face, and this ski resort is the first one to open anywhere in the Southern Hemisphere.
Another ski resort that makes New Zealand skiing so special is the one in Queenstown that is supposedly New Zealand’s own Xtreme sporting capital and you can easily go from here to places such as Treble Cone, Coronet Park and also Remarkables and the last mentioned is one of the best New Zealand skiing destinations, especially when it comes to backcountry skiing, while you would also love Treble Cone for the challenges it poses given the steep and excellent terrain there.
Other than these excellent New Zealand skiing destinations, you won’t fail to be impressed by the excellent and warm hospitality that you will receive in this excellent country that is also well know for its outstanding scenic wonders and when you try out New Zealand skiing in Wanaka you will be spellbound by the isolation of the place and from where you can easily access Treble Cone and also Cardrona as well.
You will also be sure to find many ski fields when you try out New Zealand skiing and in fact, there are twenty of them in all spread all across New Zealand which also includes the slightly smaller fields such as Porter Heights, Craigieburn and also Mt. Lyford. If you are considering New Zealand skiing seriously, then prepare to visit there in the months of early June all the way till middle of October though most activities are in full swing during July. Another thing worth keeping in mind is the need to have proper insurance which is required when trying out New Zealand skiing.
