A hot tub that is portable is a large investment in a customers comfort and enjoyment and it needs to be looked after from damage when it is being moved from place to place. With careful planning and preparation that is correct, this can be done safely.
Planning Before the Hot Tub is Moved
It is worth pointing out to a removal company that there is a hot tub involved in the move to make sure they know how to move a hot tub. This may allow the moving company to take out special measures for packing it in their removal van, and because of the space that hot tubs take up in a van, a ‘bulky article charge’ may be included in an estimate of how much moving will cost when the hot tub is included. If an exact record of the worth of the hot tub and its accessories is unknown, it may be worth obtaining the current retail value prior to selecting a protection plan for the company who knows how to move a hot tub.
Groundwork Before the Hot Tub is Moved
Hot tub construction changes in different ones, so it is best to call the dealer or manufacturer of the hot tub before dismantling anything. Some rules do apply though.
An important point is that the equipment pact, which includes the heater, filter, pump, blower and electrical and plumbing units, be serviced before the hot tub is moved. A lot of hot tub dealers recommend removing this equipment pack, draining it and packing it separately in a strong box. Some models require the equipment pack to be left attached to the shell, so it is best to check with individual models. It’s best to learn how to move a hot tub according to the various models so that you move it correctly.
A hot tub must be drained before moving day. If a hot tub user has only had the hot tub a short space of time and has not experience draining before, it is best to call the dealer to do this for then, or ask for instructions on how to do this themselves. A lot of hot tub makes come equipped with a hose bibb that attaches to a garden house. After they are drained, hot tubs still have about five or six gallons of water, which should be removed with a wet-dry vacuum so it does not spill and damage carpets and flooring.
If the customer is moving from a warm climate to a cool one where colder temperatures will be experience in movement, the whole plumping system should be drained which will stop damage to the pipes. This has to be done by a professional.
When the Hot Tub Arrives
When the hot tub is delivered, it is best to check it over, as some movers don’t know how to move a hot tub. If there is damage or parts that are missing, this has to be noted. Reassembly could be planned to be performed by a local dealer.
Good planning is the key to knowing how to move a hot tub like any possessions that are cherished. If it is done correctly the hot tub can be used for years to come.
