Plus Size Wedding Gowns Will Accent Your Features

By: Dylan Wilson

In today’s market for wedding dresses there are fashions that are made for women of all statures, and plus size wedding gowns can make the bride look classy and sophisticated. No longer must ladies with certain physical flaws have to hide behind long, flowing dresses to look fabulous on their wedding day. From ball gowns to empire styles many plus size wedding gowns can be found to fit virtually anyone preparing for their wedding.

With the high waist of empire styles, plus size wedding gowns will begin to flow downwards just under the breasts and can hide flaws often felt by larger women. The flow of the gown continues to the appropriate length of the ceremony, whether in a church, a backyard or on the beach, to allow the bride to feel more positive about her wedding. Ball gown style, with free flowing dresses sculptured by a crinoline to help the gown hold its shape.

One of the most common problems with plus size wedding gowns is having it fit the proportions of the bride. Many bodices are considered too small for most plus size women and with some of the worst designs appear to be a separate part of the dress. The better plus size wedding gowns, even those of empire design, will have the fabric smoothly flow from top to bottom.

Choosing Style To Match Body Type

Whether a woman is considered plus size or not, there are some body styles that make choosing a wedding dress difficult. Those with what is called a pear shape, that is larger on the bottom than the top, can find it hard to find a gown to accent their beauty. “A” line plus size wedding gowns can fit to form at the bodice, with the fabric making a long, sweeping descent to the floor level. This can hide any unflattering physical characteristics from just above the waist, down to the floor.

The similar effect can be realized with empire style plus size wedding gowns provided the bodice remains loose enough to flow freely into the dress portion of the gown. The use of crinoline is not recommended with empire or “A” line dresses, however they can be used to help the gown not appear to be form-fitting.

While some brides may choose to make their own plus size wedding gowns, there are numerous designers understanding the needs of women with larger body sizes. Their decision has enabled them to reach a new type of customer while providing a valuable service.
