Insomnia Can Be Defeated

By: Chris Sussan

Do you toss and turn in your bed each night before you can finally fall asleep? You might think that this is normal. However, if you struggle to get to sleep on a nightly basis, then the problem might be bigger than you thought. You might suffer from insomnia.

Insomnia is one of the worst conditions one will ever have to live with. After all, what could be worse than being extremely tired but not being able to fall asleep? Sufferers of insomnia should attempt these techniques before seeing a doctor. If you still are unable to rest, then you might consider asking for a prescription so you can finally close your eyes!

Techniques For Falling Asleep

Every insomniac has a few tips and techniques that they use before bedtime. Some of them claim they help, while others still have trouble sleeping. Make sure you give everything a try before visiting your doctor—this way you can tell him that you’ve tried absolutely everything!

Rest And Relaxation

Relaxation techniques are one way people with insomnia try to wind down before they lie down at night. Some of these techniques might include taking a warm bath, drinking warm milk, getting a massage, listening to soothing music, or drinking herb tea.

Stick To A Schedule

Other techniques to overcome insomnia have to do with maintaining a regular schedule and developing a routine. Some insomniacs recommend going to bed at the same time every night, or getting some exercise during the day. Others have nightly rituals or routines that help them fall asleep, such as eating a bedtime snack, sleeping on their backs, and avoiding caffeine during the day.

Still Struggling? Give This A Try!

Some people will try anything to get to sleep at night—even things that sound a little bizarre. If you are still having a hard time falling asleep, consider giving a few of these tricks a try.

Some people claim that sleeping with your head facing north (and your feet facing south) helps you to fall asleep because your body is better aligned with the earth. Others suggest that wiggling your toes or getting your stomach rubbed can help you to relax. Regardless of how funny some of these techniques sound, you should do whichever one works for you.

Your Last Resort

If you’ve given all of these tips a try and you still suffer from insomnia, pay a visit to your doctor. He might be able to suggest more techniques that could help you to fall asleep—or, as a last resort, he might prescribe medications that will do the same thing. Finding the solution to your sleep problems will make you feel so relieved; you might even be ready for a nap then and there!
