Transform Your Backyard Patio With Wrought Iron Outdoor Furniture

By: Kai LeBerge

When most people think about outdoor furniture, they picture some pretty cheap, disposable stuff. After all, plastic patio furniture has gone from being the exception to being the rule in the past several years. There is good reason for this.. Plastic patio chairs and tables have a lot going for them that other kinds of furniture don't. They are fairly durable, extremely cheap, ergonomically designed, light, and easy to transport. If they are damaged or worn out, you can throw them away without feeling too bad about it. After all, you can always buy another one. We do use plastic chairs and tables in my family on trips to the seashore, because we can throw them in the car and go. When we hang out around the house, lounging in the garden or on the porch, we like to have better quality stuff. That is why we have bought wrought iron outdoor furniture to furnish our whole backyard.

At first, I was skeptical of wrought iron outdoor furniture. I knew that it looked good – I've always loved the look of wrought iron furniture – but I wasn't sure that it would hold up to the weather. After all, iron is known to rust pretty easily, and it rains a lot where I live. wouldn't forged iron outdoor furniture look weathered and rusted before even one summer had passed?

What I didn't realize was that most wrought iron outdoor furniture nowadays is treated to prevent rust from building up. There are many different ways this is done. Usually, an enamel is painted over the furniture. You should, of course, check before you buy any wrought iron outdoor furniture. Still, more often than not, any furniture sold for the out-of-doors is made to withstand the weather.

What I like so much about wrought iron outdoor furniture is that it manages to be both durable and attractive. Unlike wicker which tends to fall apart after a couple of what seasons, wrought iron patio furniture holds up for a long time. You may have to replace the cushions on wrought iron chairs after a few years, but this is definitely less expensive than buying a whole new chair, and less wasteful as well! Best of all, outdoor wrought iron furniture usually looks good enough that you can bring it inside in a pinch. When I had a big dinner party the other day and needed more chairs, I simply brought my patio furniture back inside. Nothing could be easier!
