I know some people who use a multi layered effect to interact with the light at the edge of the room. It makes the borders of the rooms vague, shifting, and glowing. It really is a subtle, yet beautiful effect. You can rearrange the wallpaper coverings, or even use different layers in different parts of the same wall. The effect will be subtle, but if it is properly lit, it will be beautiful nonetheless.
Of course, bathroom wall coverings and kitchen wall coverings have different requirements altogether. If you are decorating a space where there is likely to be some mess or condensation, you probably want to be careful with using fabric. It can mildew in the bathroom, and it can catch on fire in the kitchen. In these cases, plain old vinyl wallpaper coverings might be your very best option.
