Next Time You Vacation- Go To West Palm Beach Florida |

I grew up on a dairy farm in central Minnesota. My parents were hard working people that loved to live off of the land that they owned. We lived a sheltered life. Our social activities were at the church we belonged to. We were in 4-H and we were expected to help with the farm chores. This left little time to get into trouble, or to explore the larger city that was a twenty five minute drive away. We went to school in a small rural community. My best friend in high school also lived on a farm. We were both going away to the same college so we decided that we would be room-mates.
When we started college we had a huge adjustment to make. We were not used to having all the freedom you have in college. We watched another friend of ours drink and party more than she studied and she ended up dropping out of school. We both wanted to do well in our classes. We knew that our parents had sacrificed a great deal to pay for our tuition so we were not going to get kicked out. Many of the friends we met wanted us to go on spring break to Florida. When I mentioned this to my mother she told me that I could go and visit her sister in West Palm Beach Florida over the break. My aunt would be happy to see me and she always said she had room. My mom called her and made arrangements for my friend and I to go. Spending spring break in West Palm Beach Florida with an aging aunt was not exactly the kind of spring break our friends were going to be having, but we thought is would be great to get away.
This was the first flying experience for both my friend and me. We had to switch planes in Chicago because there was not a direct flight from Minneapolis to West Palm Beach Florida. We ended up having twenty minutes to get from one gate to another to make our connecting flight. When I think back to how little we knew about traveling I cannot believe we actually made the connection. My aunt was waiting for us in the airport. She was very proud of her home and friends in West Palm Beach Florida. It is a great city and we were two blocks from a great public beach. We spent time on the beach and then took a bus tour to Disney World for two days. My aunt went out of her way to fill our time. It was not a wild and crazy vacation but at least I can say that I went to West Palm Beach Florida on spring break.
