Money Exchange Rates Don't Have To Be A Rip-Off

By: Dakota Ulrich

When you travel overseas or across the border on your own continent, you have to worry about getting the proper money to spend. This is tricky for some because they do not understand the conversion rates, and they have no idea if they are getting the right amount in return. Luckily, you can find reputable places that you know will give you the correct amount. The problem is knowing that there may be differences in money exchange rates, and you have to know where to find the best deal. You may not have even known there was a difference. Some places charge you a lot more to convert your money, and there are ways to save. They might even be right under your nose.

Many like to go to a bank to get money exchanged because they know that they are getting an honest conversion of their money. This is true, but did you know that banks can have one of the highest money exchange rates going? They tend to charge you more to turn your money into a new currency than any other place. You can also do this at the airport if you fly to your destination, but these might be run by banks as well. To makes things even more tricky, these money exchange rates tend to fluctuate from day to day and you never know what to expect.

One of the best places to get good money exchange rates is probably a place that you might use, but you might not have thought to use it for your entire trip. It will depend on where you go, however. If you are going to a country that has ATMs that are on the same system that you use, you can use this as a method of exchange and it won’t cost you as much as the bank. You can withdraw what you need from your account while you are away, and in most cases it will be the best money exchange rates you can get. You should make sure of this before you leave though, and always let your bank know that you are going overseas and may be taking out more than usual. You don’t want them to flag or freeze your account because of what looks like unusual behavior on your account. As a bonus, this is far safer than carrying a lot of cash with you anyway.
