Money Box Tips

By: Glen Jackson

There are some who don’t trust banks, or don’t like to put all of their money in the bank for various reasons. This is when they usually go out and get a money box. These don’t have to be used for just money though, as they can hold almost anything. Some use these to store things like birth certificates, jewelry, and other important or expensive things. They can work rather well, but there is one huge mistake that many make when they go out to buy one.

I made the same mistake myself, and I no longer use my money box. I thought as long as the box was lockable and sturdy, it didn’t matter what size it was. I bought one that was very small because I did not have a lot to put into it. Once I got it home and put my things in the money box, I realized the error of my ways. It might have been locked, but it was very easy to pick up and move. Any thief would see that and run with it. I’m glad I thought of that quickly, or I might still have my valuables sitting in something that would be one of the first things a thief would pick up.

When you buy a money box of any type, it needs to be something that no one can pick up very easily, and it needs to be hidden. While you may have to spend quite a bit more for something like this, it is well worth the extra cost. If they can’t pick it up, and they can’t easily pick the lock, you money and your belongings are safe. You may think that if you just store important papers in a money box and you don’t have anything to worry about, think again. Those papers are all they need to steal your identity. That can be an even bigger loss in the long run.

If you can find a money box that is small, but looks nothing like what it really is, you might be able to get away with it. However, that can be very risky. If you can find a great hiding place for your small money box, you should make sure you always keep it there. You never know when something can happen. Don’t make the same mistake many have made by keeping this sort of thing in the freezer. This is one of the first places someone breaking into your home will check. Use your imagination and find a place that is hard to get too. It might be a pain for you each time you get it out, but it will be well worth it if it can not be found by anyone else.
