The healthcare system in the US is not a good one. It seems that bills pile up when someone is sick, and the simplest things cost a fortune simply because the hospitals are losing money and can’t keep up with patient demand. Though no one with an emergency is denied treatment when they go to an emergency room, some doctors are turning some patients away because they can’t pay. I suspect they don’t want to do this, but they may have no choice. Some will take anyone no matter what, but others find they have no where to go. This is why the healthcare clinic often pops up in neighborhoods that might have a lower level of income.
Though most types of healthcare clinic have some sort of fee, they won’t usually turn anyone down if they can’t pay or can only pay a little. Everyone deserves medical care, and most of the staff in a healthcare clinic will help anyone, and they often volunteer their time to do so. They may find that some of the biggest visitors are moms that have children and they don’t have insurance. They may work full time and do the best they can, but they simply can not afford to have the insurance. Their children need shots, so they go to these places to get them.
Though the healthcare clinic can not help everyone, they help when they can and they do what they can. Many have their hands tied even if they have insurance. Sometimes insurance companies will not okay a procedure or a trip to a specialist for a wide range of reasons that may or may not be fair to the patient. This is when the healthcare clinic becomes important. They will see those who have been otherwise denied ,and they will do their best to help them when no one else will.
Though there is usually a healthcare clinic of this type in many communities, some do not have them. This is when people must go to the emergency room for things that aren’t really life threatening. This happens when someone does not have insurance, and can not get care anywhere else. Until the insurance companies are wiped out and we have universal health care for our country, the hospitals and the healthcare clinic will continue to struggle. Hopefully change will be coming soon, but until then, it is nice to know that there are still people out there who care and will see you when no one else will.
